IF YOU HEARD WHAT HAYLEY HEARD
HAYLEY SHARES THE STORY OF HER GRANDFATHER, SIMON FIXLER, WHO WAS BORN INTO A LARGE, MODERN-ORTHODOX FAMILY IN TAICHE CZECHOSLOVAKIA. SIMON WAS THE 11TH OF 16 CHILDREN, AND ONE OF EIGHT TO SURVIVE THE HOLOCAUST. HAYLEY SHARES HOW SIMON SURVIVED INHUMANE CONDITIONS IN THE HUNGARIAN FORCED LABOR SERVICE. AS FATE WOULD HAVE IT, SIMON ENDED UP ON THE SAME CATTLE CAR AS HIS BROTHER DURING ONE OF ADOLF EICHMANN’S LAST TRANSPORTS. THEY WERE IMPRISONED IN A MAUTHAUSEN SUB-CAMP CALLED GUNSKIRCHEN, WHERE THEY NARROWLY ESCAPED DEATH, AND WHERE, ULTIMATELY, THEY WERE LIBERATED. AFTER THE WAR, SIMON RECONNECTED WITH HIS WIFE, WHO HE MARRIED WHILE ON FURLOW FROM THE FORCED LABOR SERVICE, AND TOGETHER THEY REBUILT THEIR LIVES AFTER LOSING EVERYTHING.
IF YOU HEARD WHAT HAYLEY HEARD, YOU WOULD NEVER FORGET.
