IF YOU HEARD WHAT JENNA HEARD
JENNA SHARES THE STORY OF HER GRANDFATHER, EUGENE SCHLESINGER, WHO WAS FROM AN OBSERVANT JEWISH FAMILY IN CHATA, CZECHOSLOVAKIA. EUGENE WAS FORCED TO LEAVE UNIVERSITY IN HIS THIRD YEAR BECAUSE HE WAS JEWISH. UPON RETURNING HOME TO CHATA, NEIGHBORS WHO WERE ONCE FRIENDS TURNED THEIR BACKS ON THE JEWS IN THEIR TOWN. EUGENE, HIS SISTER, BROTHER, PARENTS, AND GRANDPARENTS WERE FORCED TO LEAVE THEIR HOMES. EUGENE WAS SEPARATED FROM HIS FAMILY AND SENT INTO FORCED LABOR, WHILE HIS SISTER AND PARENTS WERE SENT TO AUSCHWITZ. EUGENE EXPERIENCED INHUMANE CONDITIONS WHILE IN FORCED LABOR, BUT HE HELD ONTO HIS JEWISH FAITH, WHICH HELPED HIM SURVIVE. HIS SISTER AND BROTHER ALSO SURVIVED, AND TOGETHER, THEY REBUILT THEIR LIVES AFTER LOSING EVERYTHING.
IF YOU HEARD WHAT JENNA HEARD, YOU WOULD NEVER FORGET.
