IF YOU HEARD WHAT RACHEL HEARD
RACHEL SHARES THE STORY OF HER GRANDFATHER, DAVID ZAJAC, WHO WAS BORN IN PARIS, FRANCE IN 1938. HE WAS FOUR YEARS OLD WHEN THE WAR REACHED PARIS. HIS FATHER WAS SENT TO AN INTERNMENT CAMP, AND ULTIMATELY TO AUSCHWITZ CONCENTRATION CAMP WHERE HE PERISHED. DAVID’S MOTHER SAVED HERSELF AND HER TWO SONS WHEN AN S.S. OFFICER CAME TO THEIR APARTMENT TO ROUND THEM UP ALONG WITH SEVERAL OTHER JEWS IN THEIR AREA, BY NARROWLY ESCAPING AND GETTING ON A TRAIN HEADED SOUTH. AFTER BEING SENT TO AN INTERNMENT CAMP IN THE SOUTH OF FRANCE, NEAR THE SPANISH BORDER, AND THEN A GHETTO, THEY WERE MIRACULOUSLY LIBERATED BY FRENCH PARTISANS. AFTER THE WAR, THE FAMILY MOVED BACK TO PARIS TO TRY AND REBUILD THEIR LIVES, AND ULTIMATELY MOVED TO AND SETTLED IN THE U.S. DAVID RETURNED TO PARIS, AND BY CHANCE, MET WHO WOULD BECOME THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE, MARCIA. THEY MARRIED AND BUILT A BEAUTIFUL LIFE AND GROWING FAMILY THAT CONTINUES TO PROUDLY UPHOLD JEWISH TRADITIONS AND VALUES TODAY.
IF YOU HEARD WHAT RACHEL HEARD, YOU WOULD NEVER FORGET.
