IF YOU HEARD WHAT SHAI HEARD
SHAI SHARES THE STORY OF HER GRANDFATHER, MICHAEL FISHER, WHO WAS BORN IN DUBNO, POLAND. HE CAME FROM A VERY LOVING HOME OF TWO PARENTS AND A SISTER, AND A LARGE EXTENDED FAMILY. HE HAD AN IDYLIC CHILDHOOD, UNTIL 1939, WHEN EVERYTHING CHANGED. WHILE THEIR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS IN TOWN WERE BEING FORCED TO MOVE INTO A GHETTO, MICHAEL’S FATHER NEGOTIATED WITH A NEIGHBOR WHO OWNED FARM LAND TO HIDE THEM. MICHAEL AND HIS FAMILY SURVIVED THE HORRORS OF THE HOLOCAUST BY HIDING IN A HOLE IN THE GROUND WITH 18 PEOPLE. FOR CLOSE TO THREE YEARS BEFORE BEING LIBERATED. MICHAEL AND HIS FAMILY IMMIGRATED TO ISRAEL, ONLY TO BE MET WITH ISRAEL FIGHTING FOR IT’S STATEHOOD. HE JOINED THE ISRAELI ARMY. AFTER SURVIVING THE HOLOCAUST AND A WAR FOR INDEPENDENCE, HE MET HIS WIFE, ALSO A HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR, AND TOGETHER THEY BUILT A NEW LIFE IN ISRAEL, AND A FAMILY THAT CONTINUES TO GROW AND THRIVE TODAY.
IF YOU HEARD WHAT SHAI HEARD, YOU WOULD NEVER FORGET.
