IF YOU HEARD WHAT SIMONETTE HEARD
SIMONETTE SHARES THE STORY OF HER GRANDFATHER, ANDRE WINKLER, WHO CAME FROM SARVAR, HUNGARY, WHERE HE WAS BORN INTO A LARGE, CLOSE-KNIT, OBSERVANT JEWISH FAMILY BEFORE THE WAR. ANDRE SURVIVED THE HUNGARIAN LABOR SERVICE DURING THE HOLOCAUST, WHERE HE WAS FORCED TO DIG TRENCHES, AT TIMES WITH HIS BARE HANDS. HE RETURNED HOME AFTER THE WAR TO DISCOVER THAT WHILE FIVE OF HIS EIGHT SIBLINGS SURVIVED, HIS PARENTS, THREE SIBLINGS, NIECES AND NEPHEW WERE MURDERED AT AUSCHWITZ. AFTER BRIEFLY REUNITING WITH HIS SURVIVING FAMILY, HE MOVED TO AUSTRALIA WHERE HE REBUILT HIS LIFE. HE INSTILLED A STRONG SENSE OF FAMILY, TRADITION, AND LOVE OF FAITH TO HIS CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN, A LEGACY THAT CONTINUES IN HIS GROWING FAMILY TODAY.
IF YOU HEARD WHAT SIMONETTE HEARD, YOU WOULD NEVER FORGET.
