IF YOU HEARD WHAT SIVAN HEARD

SIVAN SHARES THE STORY OF HER GRANDMOTHER, PAULA SHERMAN, WHO WAS FROM A CLOSE-KNIT, URBAN FAMILY IN PRAGA, POLAND. PAULA WAS 12 YEARS OLD WHEN THE NAZIS INVADED HER TOWN IN 1939. THEY FORCED PAULA, HER PARENTS, AND HER THREE SIBLINGS TO MOVE TO ANOTHER TOWN WHERE CONDITIONS FOR JEWS WERE TORTUROUS. NOT LONG AFTER, PAULA, HER MOTHER, AND HER SIBLINGS WERE SEPARATED FROM HER FATHER AND SENT TO MAJDANEK CONCENTRATION CAMP. PAULA AND HER SISTER SABINA WERE SEPARATED FROM THEIR MOTHER, BROTHER, AND OTHER SISTER AND SENT INTO FORCED LABOR. NOT LONG AFTER, THEY WERE SENT TO BUCHENWALD, ASLO FORCED TO WORK UNDER UNIMAGINABLE CONDITIONS. PAULA AND SABINA WERE LIBERATED BY THE AMERICAN RED CROSS IN 1945, WHEN PAULA WAS 18 YEARS OLD. SHE SURVIVED SIX YEARS OF TORTURE AND CRUELTY DURING THE HOLOCAUST NO HUMAN SHOULD EVER HAVE TO ENDURE, AND LOST SOME OF THE MOST PRECIOUS YEARS OF ENJOYING A NORMAL TEENAGE UPBRINGING BECAUSE OF THE HOLOCAUST. AFTER THE WAR, PAULA MET AND FELL IN LOVE WITH NATHAN SHERMAN, WHO WAS ALSO A HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR, AND TOGETHER THEY REBUILT THEIR LIVES AND A FAMILY THAT CONTINUES TO GROW, THRIVE, AND KEEP THE TRADITIONS OF JUDAISM STRONG AND ALIVE TODAY.

IF YOU HEARD WHAT SIVAN HEARD, YOU WOULD NEVER FORGET.
